Other materials.....

I continued on with more bending and twisting of things to warp and distort them....i took fabric first:

I basicly folded the fabric but i kept the folds rounded instead of a straight edge....so they almost curled around.

I did a few of these in different sizes.

I moved on to paped then.

Here is a picture of the fabric and the paper shapes together.

Restricted movement?

Having experimented with movement of my hand wrapped in the wire it lead me to thinking about restricted movement and how certain things can restrict our movements...
It is hard to move when there is something in your way...
like the wire was in the way of my fingers moving for example...

This is an interesting concept.....where could i take it from here? hmmmm.....

Paint! yay!

From the previous series of photos i decided to do some paintings of some of the stages of the movement..
I chose to take the first photo of the hand flat out as my first piece...

I used chalk pastels on black paper here.

For the second piece i chose a slighty more closed hand...

This is mixed acrylic paint on brown paper....

For the final piece i chose a fully clenched fist....

This is more mixed acrylic paint but in a lighter colour...
I think these paintings would look well with more of them in a large sequence.

Little bit of a sequence....:)

After I had experimented with trying little bits of stop motions.....I thought why not try another one but showing a more realistic movement.
I decided on just a simple movement of the hand from bein open into a clenched fist...
I started by taking pictures of my hand after every small movement...

I was going to leave it at  just the plain hand but i thought hey sure why not try pictures of my hand with the wire hand on it doing the same thing. so i did....

There are less photos here than before. Thats because bending my hand inside that wire hand was extremely painful and very restricting. There was no way i could fully clench my fist.

I took both sets of photos anyway and combined them into a stop motion....i realise that they are different hands, as in one is left and the other is right but it doesn't really make a difference.
Heres my take on another little stop motion video:

Its real short but i thought it was kind of neat :)

Experimenting with shadows.

After having done that research I decided to take a stab at  experimenting with shadows myself. My initial idea was to use a lamp and project the shadows onto the white wall.....but all i could find at the time was a torch so i just tried it out...

The torch light had kind of a blue tint to it which is why the photos are blue...but i liked it :) it added a  nice effect to them. The further the hand was from the wall.. the fainter the shadow was. i had fun playing around with this. :)
