Finding My source !

After having looked at my initial research material I began to think, what do i think of when i think of flimsy/ethereal/fuzzy. Well ethereal was stuck in my mind and how it conveys such elegence and naturalness. Looking through my mindmap i had related natural to nature so i started thinking about nature as in flowers and plants etc.
I started with looking at roses.
I took some pictures of a rose that i found in my house.

I realised that the leaves interested me more so i began lookin at leaves and Ivy.
I found this picture frame in my house that reminded me of ivy it had twisting and turning leaves with flowers entangled in it.

I took my own pictures of ivy because i live in the countryside so theres plenty of trees etc.

I think ivy is an interesting subject because it makes many interesting shapes but also in relation to my chosen theme, ivy has a certain elegence to it as it wraps around the trees with the shapes it makes as it twists and turns. The next step was to pull shapes from these photos.

Pulling shapes.

After choosing my source....which was ivy...i then began to pull shapes from the photos i had taken.

After doing this i had to choose my 2 favourite shapes to work with.

Fashion!

So now it's time for the fashion elective. We were given a brief with 5 sets of three words on it which we were to use as our themes.....i chose : Flimsy/ ethereal/ fuzzy.
The word ethereal really grabbed my attention as i hadn't seen it before so i started off with some contextual research on ethereal looks. This is what i came across :

These are some photos from an ethereal photoshoot by fashion photographer Robin Alfain.

I really loved this image, it has a real old-style feel to it.

After looking through these photos i realised that ethereal design is very floaty, delicate and elegant. It uses light colours such as whites, creams, pale pinks and pale yellows. The garments just seem to float and drape over the figure so elegantly and beautifully. I continues my research with this in mind.

This image was an interesting find. It wasnt as typically ethereal as the above garments but it still had an elegant draping quality to it.
This is a creation by designer Raquel Allegra, it is one of her ethereal cobweb creations, which have been known to have taken shredded clothing to a whole new level. Whats interesting about these tops and dresses is that they are made out of old L.A County Jail Tshirts. She turns something with such an ugly past into something with such elegance and beauty to it.

Above: Photos from a Chanel fashion show runway. A quote from the night : ' Feminine Ethereal drop-waisted dresses and cascading ruffles were the order of the day.'

Burning, melting, distorting.

I decided to look into other ways of  distorting/ warping objects, so i picked a basic everyday object: a plastic bottle. I started to burn it slowly.

 The basic Bottle.

I made 3 more after burning one.

The bottles looked boring standing so i hung them up using wire and phototgraphed them.
